PA1

The Flower Girls by Clemence Dane published by Michael Joseph. This 1st edition novel by one of Noel Coward’s closest friend is inscribed to Graham Payn thus “To Dear Graham with much affection from Winifred Christmas 1954”. The book is in excellent condition but has clearly been used and has some light scuffing to the exterior. There is no dustwrapper.

PA2

The Arrogant History of White Ben by Clemence Dane published by Heinemann. This specially boxed and bound edition of Dane’s novel was
made for Gladys Calthrop. The book and box are bound with white kid leather and hand-marbled paper. The lettering on the book and box are in gold with the initials CG on the bottom RH corner of both. The special binding has clearly been carried out by a skilled bookbinder by hand.
The true cover/dustwrapper of the books has been fixed inside front and back. The book was dedicated to 'GC' in all its printings and contains a newspaper cutting placed inside from the New York Times with a review by John Patton
of the novel.

PA3

Present Indicative by Noel Coward.
This UK 1st edition, 1st printing of the first part of Coward’s autobiography is in reasonably sound condition but has heavily foxed fly pages. The dustwrapper is foxed, torn and very tatty, held
together at the edges with the dreaded Sellotape. It was clearly well used and
is inscribed by Coward - clearly to an intimate - “Here you are cock N”

PA4

Present Indicative by Noel Coward.
This UK 1st edition of the first part of
Coward’s autobiography is in reasonably sound condition but has a damaged spine with both cover boards parting from the body of the book although still firmly attached by the binding tapes. The body of the book is still tight and sound with slight foxing. The end papers are more heavily foxed. This copy is inscribed and signed by Noel Coward’s mother Violet Coward
thus “Violet-Coward New York March 12th 1940”. It also contains a note card Ref Description
with Noel Coward printed at the top containing the following: “Inscribed copies 1 - To Gladys Calthrop (with dust jacket by G.E.C) 2 - Signed by Violet Coward” This clearly refers to PA2 and this book and is likely to have been written by Joan Hirst, Coward’s last secretary.
