'The Music Vault', Tel: 020 7836 2505. They are very helpful and regularly sell over 65 of the most popular songs. They will search for the more obscure songs. Individual copies are £5.95 a copy or £4.95 for three or more with further reductions for larger orders.

Noel Coward's first published song (1919) Doris Doris was in reality Doris Joel, with whom he wrote a number of (largely unpublished) songs at the time. Baseball Rag he regretted later, 'something less than all- American'

Bitter-Sweet, the operette of Noel's career and possibly of the British stage this century. 'Tiara'd women clapped till the seams of their gloves burst;' wrote The Tatler of the first night in 1929.
The older generation could say with more complacency than truth that this was how they had fallen in love and the younger generation were made to wonder if in rejecting romance they might not have missed something.

Noel Coward experienced mixed pain and pleasure at seeing Jack Buchanan bring down the house in Charlot's Revue on Broadway - his own performance of his own songs in the London production had been less enthusiastically received.
